Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility at Eastleigh aims to embrace responsibility for corporate actions and to encourage a positive impact on our environment.

ETHICAL TRADING

With the continued help of our suppliers Eastleigh Care Homes consistently reviews methods to purchase goods and services that have a minimal impact on the environment. Our waste recycling and collection continues to be provided by Viridor.

We convert all cooking oils and actively manage our kitchen waste and source local ingredients and products wherever possible.

ESTATES & FACILITIES

Our homes all boast low energy light bulbs wherever possible and this has resulted in noticeable savings in energy costs. The homes are fitted with low energy flat screen televisions and computer screens have recently been updated.

Our Minehead and East Street homes have solar power generation for electricity. The Raleigh Mead home has thermodynamic solar panels to assist with the heating of the water in the home.

CARBON REDUCTION

Eastleigh Care Homes continues to review ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We are currently reviewing a possible amendment to our water and heating supplies in the homes which would have a significant reduction in our carbon footprint.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Eastleigh Care Homes is committed to promoting equality and challenging discrimination in our business.

Our employment practices are fair and we value our staff. We actively challange discrimination and promote equality exceeding duties as statue in legislation. We actively promote a service that is truly inclusive to all we engage with and strive to become an employer of choice.

EMPLOYEES

In the health & social care industry the quality and motivation of your employees dictates the success of your business. The ability to have well trained, engaged and quality employees helps you provide exceptional personal centred care.

Eastleigh Care Homes reviews the sickness levels and compliance of the company e-learning portal every month. This allows us to drive attendance and ensure that all staff have the appropriate training to remain compliant and confident to deliver excellent care.

From April 2015 each employee will have a personal development plan to assist with their learning and to comply with the Care Standards requirements laid down by legislation. Every employee has an annual appraisal which reviews compliance, quality and learning. Eastleigh Care Homes also engages with regular supervision sessions for care staff to ensure that they remain focused on providing person centred care.

Our recruitment and retention is focused on providing staff who are capable and caring regardless of their sex, marital status, race, religion or disability. Eastleigh Care Homes remains focused on full compliance with the Equality Act 2010.

QUALITY

We have gained a first class reputation as one of the leading independent care operators by simply doing everything we can for our residents.

Eastleigh Care Homes has an established track record of clinical quality. All of our homes have a reported level of compliance with the Care Quality Commission and other regulatory standards.

We ensure that our services are accessible and appropriate for all residents, visitors, students, contractors and carers.

Our internal governance is monitored by our Registered Managers and a monthly audit completed which is assessed as a group for compliance.

Quality of care is not always about the tangible facts but as much about word of mouth and the quality perception of the service. Eastleigh Care Homes actively reviews the views of residents and their families through regular processes. These include one to one resident reviews, resident meetings, questionnaires and comments / complaint processes.

Should you feel that you have a concern about the quality of our service please do not hesitate to let us know as delivery of excellent service is paramount to us.

TRAINING

Here at Eastleigh Care Homes we focus on providing a highly skilled and empathic team.  Our learning is a blended of theory and practical elements that allows our teams to be prepared to support our residents quickly and appropriately.

Training is an imperative aspect of the provision of exemplary care. All our staff regardless of their role in our homes are trained annually on fire, health & Safety, deprivation of liberty safeguards, safeguarding, moving & handling, infection control, dignity & respect, dementia and equality & diversity. Additional to this staff have bespoke learning which delivers enhanced training specific to their job role or the extended competencies required.

We have a learning portal that allows us to track the theory learning completed and to assess competency in completion and grades achieved.

We follow clear policy for learning and completion which includes taking an active stance for non-compliance to ensure that everyone in our homes receives the best care and attention.

‘Following the Francis Inquiry, Camilla Cavendish was asked by the Secretary of State to review and make recommendations on the recruitment, learning and development, management and support of healthcare assistants and social care support workers.

The resulting report, published in July 2013, found that the preparation of healthcare assistants and social care support workers for their roles within care settings was inconsistent, and one of the recommendations was the development of the Care Certificate.

Achievement of the Care Certificate should ensure that the healthcare support worker has the required values, behaviours, competences and skills to provide high quality, compassionate care.’  (www.skillsforcare.org.uk )

Eastleigh Care Homes are prepared for these changes to the requirements of the sector and all new staff will be required to complete the care certificate to demonstrate their competency.
