Training

Here at Eastleigh Care Homes we focus on providing a highly skilled and empathic team.  Our learning is a blended of theory and practical elements that allows our teams to be prepared to support our residents quickly and appropriately.

Training is an imperative aspect of the provision of exemplary care. All our staff regardless of their role in our homes are trained annually on fire, health & Safety, deprivation of liberty safeguards, safeguarding, moving & handling, infection control, dignity & respect, dementia and equality & diversity. Additional to this staff have bespoke learning which delivers enhanced training specific to their job role or the extended competencies required.

We have a learning portal that allows us to track the theory learning completed and to assess competency in completion and grades achieved.

We follow clear policy for learning and completion which includes taking an active stance for non-compliance to ensure that everyone in our homes receives the best care and attention.

‘Following the Francis Inquiry, Camilla Cavendish was asked by the Secretary of State to review and make recommendations on the recruitment, learning and development, management and support of healthcare assistants and social care support workers.

The resulting report, published in July 2013, found that the preparation of healthcare assistants and social care support workers for their roles within care settings was inconsistent, and one of the recommendations was the development of the Care Certificate.

Achievement of the Care Certificate should ensure that the healthcare support worker has the required values, behaviours, competences and skills to provide high quality, compassionate care.’  (www.skillsforcare.org.uk )

Eastleigh Care Homes are prepared for these changes to the requirements of the sector and all new staff will be required to complete the care certificate to demonstrate their competency.
